Get to Know Mrs. Wells

        Mrs. Wells is a graduate of Augustana College, Sioux Falls, with a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education. Marti has completed graduate level courses in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Child Development, and holds a Master's Degree in Education. She's completed South Dakota Reads teacher training, Science Academy 2014, trained in Investigations Mathematics implementation, was a BLAHST Consortium Lead Science Teacher, served three years on Vandenberg's School Improvement committee,  and enjoys continuing to learn and improve her teaching.

         Born and raised in Kansas, Mrs. Wells began her teaching career with Columbus Public Schools, in Columbus, Nebraska. She taught junior high and senior high students with learning disabilities for four years. Marti became director of Columbus' Community Adult Basic Education and GED classes and English as a Second Language programs. She owned and operated a state registered daycare and preschool in Nebraska, and directed and taught Vacation Bible Schools there.
         The family moved to Box Elder in 1989, where Marti continued her daycare and preschool. In 1996 she began teaching at Vandenberg, and has taught fourth and fifth grades. In 2003 she was named a Highmark Star Teacher.
         Mrs. Wells has been married 40 years to Kent Wells, Science Teacher at Douglas Middle School. Their 3 daughters are all graduates of Douglas High School. Marti always welcomes parent visits, emails, and phone calls!
